Modern Slavery Statement for Cleaners E1
This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Cleaners E1 in respect of the financial year ending 31 December and sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business operations and supply chains. Cleaners E1 is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all business relationships, ensuring that exploitation has no place in our organisation or among those who supply goods and services to us.
Our Zero-Tolerance Policy
Cleaners E1 operates a clear zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, debt bondage, servitude and child labour. This policy applies to all employees, workers, contractors, and suppliers who work with or on behalf of Cleaners E1. We expect our business partners to share and uphold this commitment and to implement robust practices to protect workers from exploitation.
Any suspected involvement in modern slavery by an employee, contractor, or supplier may result in disciplinary action, termination of contracts, and, where appropriate, reporting to relevant authorities. We are committed to ensuring that everyone who works for or with us is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Cleaners E1 provides cleaning services to commercial and residential customers. Our workforce includes directly employed staff and vetted subcontractors. Our supply chains include providers of cleaning products, equipment, uniforms, facilities services, and subcontracted labour. We recognise that certain parts of the cleaning industry and wider supply chains may present higher risks of labour exploitation, and we focus particular attention on these areas.
Supplier Standards and Audits
We require all suppliers and subcontractors to comply with applicable labour, employment, and human rights laws, and to adopt standards that are consistent with our own. As part of our procurement and onboarding processes, we assess potential suppliers on their approach to labour practices, worker protections, and ethical conduct.
Cleaners E1 conducts periodic audits and reviews of key suppliers and subcontractors, which may include site visits, document checks, worker interviews conducted in a safe environment, and verification of right to work. Where risks are identified, we work collaboratively with suppliers to implement corrective actions within clear timeframes. If improvement does not occur or if serious breaches are identified, we reserve the right to suspend or end the business relationship.
Employee Awareness, Training, and Responsibilities
We are committed to increasing awareness of modern slavery risks among our employees and managers. Training is provided to staff involved in recruitment, procurement, contract management, and site supervision so they can recognise indicators of exploitation and understand how to respond safely and appropriately.
Managers are responsible for monitoring working conditions, ensuring fair treatment, and verifying that all workers engaged on our contracts are employed or contracted in line with legal requirements. We promote a culture where concerns can be raised without fear of retaliation.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
Cleaners E1 encourages anyone who has concerns about modern slavery or unethical labour practices in our operations or supply chains to report these concerns as soon as possible. Reports can be made to line managers, senior management, or via our internal whistleblowing and grievance procedures.
All reports are treated seriously and, where possible, confidentially. We investigate concerns promptly and take appropriate action, which may include engaging with suppliers, supporting affected individuals, or informing relevant authorities. We do not tolerate victimisation of any person who raises a concern in good faith.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We recognise that preventing modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility and that risks may change over time. Cleaners E1 is committed to continuous improvement in our policies, processes, and practices. Each year we will review this statement and our wider approach to modern slavery to assess effectiveness and identify enhancements.
As part of this annual review, we will consider feedback from employees, workers, clients, and other stakeholders, analyse any reported incidents or concerns, and evaluate the outcomes of supplier audits and training programmes. Updated measures will be implemented where necessary to strengthen our prevention, detection, and response to modern slavery risks.
This Modern Slavery Statement has been approved by the leadership of Cleaners E1 and will be reviewed and updated on an annual basis.
